Most modern systems use Secure Shell (SSH) instead of TELNET because SSH provides encryption, which makes it impossible for people who may be trying to intercept your data to steal information or hijack your session.
Most modern servers do not have any inbound ports open for HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) connections, so you will be unable to log in via an HTTP connection.
