Korku Dance Is From Which State?
The Korku is a Munda ethnic group mostly located in the Madhya Pradesh districts of Khandwa, Burhanpur, Betul, and Chhindwara, as well as adjacent regions near the Melghat Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra.
They speak the Munda language Korku, written in Devanagari and a part of the Munda language family. According to the Indian government, they are a Scheduled Tribe.
The name Korku is derived from the Japanese words 'Koro' and 'Ku,' which signify 'person' and 'living,' respectively. The terms Koro and Ku can be defined as the living member.
The Korkus is a Munda tribe that lives near the Gonds, a Dravidian-speaking tribe. It is thought that the Korku people were hunter-gatherers who lived in the Satpura Range forests on both Tapti River shores.
The Korku tribe inhabits small groups of grass and wood homes. Each home has an elevated structure like a stage in the front yard. This raised platform is used to store agricultural products such as livestock feed.
They drink liquor derived from the Mahua tree's blooms, prepared in nearly every home. With 97 percent of the population residing in rural areas, the majority of Korkus are cultivators.
Korkus in Bhainsdehi tehsil of the Betul district in Madhya Pradesh has pioneered the cultivation of potatoes and coffee. They share a fondness for the forest with the Gonds but are also good farmers.
A month-long planting campaign is celebrated during their traditional holidays of Hari and Jitori. They tackle starvation and environmental damage in this manner.
The community has a distinctive and distinct culture and a rich heritage of ancient traditional forms of knowledge, belief, customs, and social organization. Korku Panchayat, the traditional representative of the society, is located in numerous villages.
Other members of the Panchayat are Padihar (priest), Kotwar (Chaukidar), and ten to twelve members of the community's elder male population known as Panch.
It plays a crucial part during traditional occasions like festivals, weddings, and resolving intra- and inter-village conflicts.
Due in part to a lack of natural resources, the population faces several socioeconomic issues daily, including poverty, starvation, malnutrition, and widespread exploitation by moneylenders and merchants.
Although agriculture is the principal source of income for most community residents, many are employed seasonally as agricultural laborers.
