Badminton Originated From Which Country?
The sport of badminton is played by a huge number of people all around the world. Because we now live in a digital age, it has received significant exposure and awareness during its existence.
However, regardless of whether you believe it or not, the roots of this sport can be traced back to India. The city of Pune is credited with giving rise to the sport of badminton in its earliest stages. After the location, it was commonly referred to as Poona or Poonah. However, various legends differ about whether the sport was developed in Pune or elsewhere.
The sport is a descendant of the ancient game of shuttlecock. The game was traditional in India, and both men and women played it. Badminton, however, refers to the large shuttlecocks used during the game. The shuttlecocks were referred to as badmintons at first.
In 1873, the first set of badminton regulations was written down, and the following year, in 1875, returning British officers established the first badminton club. In 1887, new regulations were implemented, and 1899 witnessed the inaugural All England Badminton Championship.
In 1936, India became a member of the Badminton World Federation. At this point, China is the dominant power in sports.
As a result, we have reason to be proud of the fact that a sport played all over the world got its beginnings in our country and has since grown into a major cultural force. It is only fitting that we give utmost respect to the people of Pune and its surrounding areas, who can be credited with giving birth to this great game.
