Speed Post Or Courier, Which Is Faster?
In major metropolitan areas, speed post is more reliable and efficient. The postal service delivers 99 percent of letters via priority mail between 1 to 9 days, compared to 92 percent via private courier services, which can take up to 10 days.
The local delivery rate for expedited mail is 98 percent, compared to 93 percent for courier services. Locally, fast post-delivery takes between 1 and 11 days, whereas private couriers take between 1 and 12 days.
In a report on the department of posts recently filed in Parliament, the official auditor stated that speed post-performance has improved at the local level and in big cities and is also the only dependable service at the tehsil and village level.
CAG performed a test check-in in eight postal circles — Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh — to evaluate the standard and effectiveness of speed post with those of private courier firms for the delivery of mails. Hundreds of letters were mailed to conduct the checks.
At the tehsil level, only speed post could reach 100 percent of addressees within one to seven days, whereas private couriers could only deliver 83 percent of mail within one to twenty-three days.

Speed post was developed in 1986 to provide large cities with a speedier and time-bound mail delivery service. However, due to late letter delivery, citizens had lost faith in the agency.
However, according to the auditor, this perception is incorrect, as speed post remains the most reliable service and accounts for more than 10 percent of the DoP's overall revenue.
During the test, the auditor mailed 284 letters via expedited mail and 287 letters via various private couriers. The performance was evaluated based on the number of letters sent, the number of letters delivered, and the time required to deliver test letters.
The most trustworthy private courier service for expedited delivery is Speed Post from India Post; all other private courier services are unreliable.
