It is essential to keep track of how much fuel your car consumes as gasoline prices rise. You should calculate the miles of a motorcycle every two months to detect any increase in fuel consumption as soon as possible.
A rise in fuel usage may also indicate more serious problems with the motorcycle. These may include underinflated tires, low oil levels, blocked fuel, air filters, and faulty spark plugs.
If you are excessively forceful with the throttle and the brakes to improve fuel economy, this might also indicate that you need to modify your riding style.
The formula for determining mileage in KMPL is the distance traveled in kilometers divided by the amount of fuel consumed in liters.
For instance, if you ride your motorcycle for 100 kilometers on 5 liters of petrol, its mileage is 100 km/5 liters or 20 kilometers per liter. Now, we will apply this formula to three distinct configurations.
Full Tank Procedure
In this first approach, the gasoline tank must be filled, and the trip meter must be reset to 0. Now ride your bike for 100 kilometers before refueling.
Repeat this technique two or three times and record the liters of gasoline-filled each time. Compute the relevant mileage by applying the formula (100/liters) to each fuel notation.
There may be a disparity between these notations, and their average will provide a reasonable estimate of the bike's miles.
It is the most systematic way of determining the bike's mileage; however, it does not provide precise data because it cannot be proven whether the tank is full (as air pockets often get informed in your fuel tank while filling).
Method of Mileage Testing Bottles

Here, the measuring bottle with fuel (let's say 500 ml) is linked to the fuel pipe leading to the carburetor, the trip meter is set to 0, and the bike is forced to run until the fuel in this bottle expands to 100 ml.
The trip meter reading is recorded and then divided by 0.4 liters or the quantity of fuel consumed. This final reading provides the bike's mileage.
This approach is fairly precise and depends on your driving conditions at measurement, so ride as you normally would.
Reserve Filling Method
This approach utilizes the reserve switch or digital reserve indicator on your fuel tank when the gasoline is about to reach its reserve level. Reset the trip meter to 0 or record the odometer data as soon as the bike is placed in the reserve position.
Let's say the current odometer reading is 2,000 kilometers. Now, fill the tank with approximately 1 liter of petrol (pre-filled bottle). Drive your bike till it returns to the reserve position.
Let's suppose that the bike has traveled 2050 kilometers at this point. In this case, the discrepancy between the final and initial odometer readings is 50 kilometers (2050 - 2000). This distance is traversed with 1 liter of gasoline. The resulting mileage is thus 50 km/liter.
The main difficulty with this strategy is that the precise construction of the gasoline tank and fuel location on both sides of the chassis rod when the motorcycle entered the reserve are unknown. This approach also takes three to four readings to get a definitive distance.
How to Maintain Good Bike Mileage?
Servicing at Predetermined Intervals
After many thousand kilometers, your bike needs to be maintained. Depending on the motorbike's kind, power, and usage, it is important that servicing at an authorized service facility might increase its gas mileage.
Determine Tire Pressure
Check the bikes' tires since a flat tire might increase fuel consumption. Ensure that the manufacturer specifications are adhered to maximize the motorcycles' mileage.
Carburetor Settings
Tuning the bike for optimal performance goes a long way. The carburetor settings must be frequently adjusted to restore the engine's performance. Therefore, it aids in preserving or enhancing gas mileage.
Excellent Fuel Quality
Rarely do the most fuel-efficient bikes utilize the finest available gasoline. Though it may be costly, boosting the bike's mileage when traveling from one location to another goes long. Avoid using leaded petrol as much as possible. Choose the premium alternatives that gasoline companies provide.
Prevent Revving and Aggressive Riding
Sudden braking, revving the engine, high speeds, etc., are all indications that the engine is being subjected to an inappropriate load and can drastically affect fuel economy. In addition, doing so may cause an engine misfire and catastrophic damage to the motorcycle.
Use the Kill Switch Immediately
Standing at a signal and keeping your engine running? Then it is preferable to use the kill switch to turn off the engine to improve engine health and save a substantial quantity of fuel.
Avoid Parking in Sunlight
Avoid parking your car in direct sunshine since this might cause fuel to evaporate from the fuel tank and limit the engine's total fuel intake. Ensure that the car is parked in a garage or the shade.
